Start of the Asiatic Black bear and Persian leopard study in Hormozgan province
Black Bear and Persian leopard study which has been started from last year with
primary research in some regions like Bashagard and Roudan by the Plan for the Land
Society staff with cooperation of Hormozgan provincial office of the Department
of Environment now enters to a new phase.
The main aim of this project is the study of food diet in Asiatic Black bear and
Persian leopard, investigation on occupancy of both species in the Hormozgan province
and study of Black Bear conflicts levels with human in this region of the world.
After early steps which will last for two years, actions toward awareness-raising
and education to reduce conflicts between local people and Black Bear will be started.
Currently there are high levels of conflict between local people and Black bear
especially in Roudan county in Hormozgan province and Plan for the Land Society
project is trying to reduce these conflicts to protect this endangered spices in
the country.
Asiatic Black Bears live just in three provinces of Iran, Kerman, Sistan and Balouchistan
and Hormozgan. Also in this project, food diet and population estimate of leopards
in Geno Protected Area will be done.
