Observation of wild boar in Mangrove forests
Taher Ghadirian (wildlife expert) reported: On March 28/2007, Hasan Sharify and
I were studying on the ecology of black Rat in Mangrove forests of Khamir area in
Qeshm island. While doing our line transects for population of black rat, 3 wild
boars appeared on this island.
Surprisingly wild boars have never been reported from Mangrove areas of Iran.
After searching for tracks, we spot 2 wild pigs again and also there was a hole
with lots of trunks and branches over it, which we suggest it’s wild boars den.
Harra protected area is one of 9 Biosphere reserves in Iran which is located in
Hormozgan province (between Khamir and Qeshm island).
This area is covered with pure Mangrove forests (mainly Avicenia marina) on inter
tidal zone.
Forests of Khamir area are mainly more dense because of not browsing by local people,
so it’s more secured for wildlife.
Observation of wild boars in this area means they have good swimming skills.
Also in other islands, tracks of wild pig and fox observed repeatedly.
